Local Harvest Festival celebrates Sustainable Communities Day

To celebrate Sustainable Communities Day, the city of Aurora will host its first-ever Local Harvest Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at The People's Building, 9995 E. Colfax Ave.

A yoga class will kick off the event from 10 to 11 a.m., with a $10 suggested donation.

Mingle with organizations focused on sustainability starting at 11 a.m., and enjoy a cooking and composting demo that is both free and kid friendly from 11 a.m. to noon.

To attend the yoga class or the cooking and composting demonstration, RSVP to Lkoiv@auroragov.org or 303.739.7137. Lunch from local food trucks will be available for purchase at the event, and a cash bar will be on site.

To benefit local food assistance organizations, event organizers also will collect donations of nonperishable food items or cash.

2019 will be the first year Sustainable Communities Day is celebrated in North America following the success in Europe where 24 countries participate in events on Sept. 21.
