New auto renewals at Aurora Public Library

Jan. 23, 2020

New auto renewals at Aurora Public Library

Due to popular demand, Aurora Public Library is implementing automatic renewals for most library items, which saves patrons time and allows them to keep items for a longer period of time.

The new program started Jan. 1, and in its first two weeks it has generated over 16,500 auto renewals.

Items eligible for automatic renewal will be renewed up to four times when the 3-day courtesy reminder is sent (three days prior to the item’s due date). The new due date will be extended from the original due date. An item will not be renewed if: there is a hold on the item, the item is non-renewable, such as a museum pass; the item is downloadable, such as an Overdrive or Hoopla e-book or e-audiobook; the item has reached its maximum allowable renewals (currently four renewals); the item is checked out through Prospector or Interlibrary Loan; the patron account charges have exceeded $10; or there is a block on the patron’s account.

How do you know when something you’ve borrowed has been automatically renewed? Whether or not an item has been renewed will be reflected in your 3-day courtesy notice email. Items that have been automatically renewed will display a new due date. Therefore, it is important to carefully review your due dates to avoid any overdue fees.

On average, in a year Aurora Public Library receives about 1.1 million library visits, gets about 100,000 participants in its programs and has about 1.1 million items checked out at its six branches and online. To learn more about Aurora Public Library, visit AuroraLibrary.org.

Small Business Advocate
of the Year Award:
Chuck Hahn
2019 Aurora's Business Awards Ceremony

Each December, the city of Aurora honors local businesses that go above and beyond. In 2019, five businesses and one individual joined the 68 others that have been honored since the city’s Business Recognition Awards event began in 2005.

Each of the award winners are being profiled in This Is Aurora.

During the award ceremony, the city announced a new award this year—created by the Aurora-South Metro Small Business Development Center—that is designed to recognize an individual who has had a positive impact on Aurora’s small business community. The inaugural award was presented to Chuck Hahn, who recently retired after serving the city and the Aurora-South Metro SBDC for over 16 years.

The Aurora Business Recognition Awards are hosted by the city's Business Advisory Board and organized by the Development Services Division, with support from the Aurora-South Metro Business Development Center.
